Mealworm Care Guide
Keeping your live mealworms fresh and healthy is easy. If you're keeping them as live feed, they can be kept in the container supplied or transferred to a larger ventilated container.
01
Keep Them Cool
Store your mealworms in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Cool conditions slow their development and help keep them as mealworms for longer.
02
Give Them Air
Mealworms need ventilation. Keep them in a well-ventilated container and avoid sealing them in an airtight container.
03
A Little Fresh Food
If you're keeping them for more than a few days, occasionally add a small piece of carrot, potato or similar vegetable. This provides moisture as well as food.
Remove uneaten fresh food before it becomes mouldy.
04
Keep Them Dry
Don't add a water bowl or pour water into the bedding. Too much moisture encourages mould and can kill your mealworms.
Keep their bedding dry and replace it if it becomes damp or spoiled.
05
Feed and Enjoy
Mealworms can be offered as a supplementary food or treat to poultry, birds, reptiles, fish and other insect-eating animals.
Only feed an amount appropriate for the animal you're feeding and remove uneaten mealworms where necessary.

Mealworm Frass for the Garden
Mealworm frass is a natural by-product of raising our mealworms. Rather than going to waste, we collect it, package it and put those nutrients back to work in the garden.
How to use it
Top dressing: Sprinkle around established plants and gently work it into the soil.
Mixing into soil: Blend a small amount through garden soil or potting mix before planting.
When planting: Add frass to the surrounding soil when planting seedlings, vegetables, flowers and other plants.
Frass tea: Frass can also be steeped in water and applied around plants as a liquid soil treatment.
A natural part of our growing cycle
Our frass is collected as part of raising our Tasmanian mealworms. What would otherwise be a by-product is returned to the garden, making good use of nutrients from our mealworm-growing process.
